Non-Surgical Treatments

Rediscovering your best face

Used to refresh your appearance, non surgical procedures are accessible to you if you’re looking to recapture that youthful you.

These less invasive procedures are used to treat frown lines between your eyes, forehead lines, crows-feet, smokers lines and to generally improve your appearance. The procedures are safely used to plump up your cheeks and lips.

Botox

Botox assists with reducing wrinkles.

Method

Botox, or neurotoxin, weakens and decreases the contraction of the muscles that cause extensive skin wrinkling.

Result

The use of neurotoxin can effectively treat the expression lines to give you a more youthful, rested and relaxed appearance.

Botox is proven to be effective in treating these lines.

Fillers

Fillers can help to fill out facial wrinkles, creases and folds.

There are two types of fillers, permanent fillers and temporary fillers. The most common fillers are temporary, so called “off the shelf” fillers.

Injectable:

‘off the shelf’ – performed in doctors’ rooms.

These are very popular as they are quick and simple with few side effects. I only use fillers that have long track records of safety and effectiveness. I use exclusively, Hyaluronic acid fillers. (Restylane, Juvederm) is a naturally occurring substance (polysaccharide), which forms much of the ground substance of the skin. It forms part of the ‘gel’, which bathes collagen and elastin fibres. The hyaluronic acid content of the skin decreases with age and this is partly responsible for the formation of wrinkles.

Fat injections are increasingly becoming more and more popular in modern aesthetic surgery. Fat injections have been used in the field of plastic surgery for decades and recently, studies have revealed their “stem-cell” effect. What this simply means is that “fat grafts” or fat fills injected directly into the skin has the capacity to not only permanently fill the desired area but to also regenerate the skin and reverse the signs of aging.

Structural Fat Grafting:

‘Fat Injections’ – ‘Autologous fat grafting’

The most frequently used permanent filler is the person’s own fat. Fat is used to fill in sagging cheeks or the naso-labial folds or to correct skin depressions or indentations and to enhance the lips.

Most frequent side effects and potential risks

  • Bruising.
  • Redness.
  • Irregularities – uncommon.
  • Under or over-filling – uncommon.

Profhilo

Profhilo is an injectable skin treatment that focuses on hydrating and “bio-remodeling” the skin.

Method

The Profhilo is an injectable that contains the highest concentration of Hyaluronic Acid.

Result

Improves skin tone, texture, hydration and overall radiance that generally lasts 6 mths to a year but requires 2 treatments.

Chemical Peels

A process used to improve the texture of the skin by removing the outermost layers.

Method

A chemical peel is a process used to improve the texture of the skin by removing the outermost layers of the skin which is achieved by inducing a controlled injury to the skin. The most appropriate peel will be selected depending on the skin conditions to be addressed, the amount of downtime you can afford, how quickly you would like to achieve results and your medical history.

Milk Peel

A mild chemical peel that targets fine lines, dullness and uneven skin tone.

Medium chemical peel

e.g. (TCA 15% – 30%)
This peel is an effective way to correct acne scars, address uneven pigmentation, improve the texture and tone of the skin and smooth out fine lines.

Dermapen

Dermapen/Microneedling treatment helps to increase skin thickness, radiance, tightening while reducing wrinkles.

Method

This treatment activates the body’s own mechanism to stimulate collagen production by introducing micro-trauma to the skin.

Result

The final result is skin rejuvenation with an increase in skin thickness, radiance, tightening and wrinkle reduction. Medical microneedling is also used specifically to address acne scarring and post-traumatic scarring to all body parts.

Old Scars

Old scars can be treated effectively. Patients who experience sensation loss after major surgery, such as breast reduction, abdominoplasty and hysterectomy have been assisted to regain sensation with medical microneedling.

Helping you regain your confidence

Facial Aesthetics

Rejuvenation procedures in head and neck.

Blepharoplasty or Eyelid Rejuvenation Surgery

The appearance of “tired eyes” with overhanging upper eyelid skin or excess skin and lower lid “bags” are usually excellent candidates for a blepharoplasty.

These procedures are commonly performed under local anaesthesia. Occasionally, drooping of the outer part of the eyebrow (brow ptosis) may contribute to this appearance and where necessary correction may be indicated.

Aggressive treatment by excision of excess upper eyelid skin alone for the treatment of tired eyes in the presence of brow ptosis is inadequate, counterproductive, and seldom leads to any marked improvement in the condition.

Chin Augmentation

The main areas that a face-lift will address are the neckline and “jowls”. Patients seeking a youthful smooth neck and jaw line are very good candidates for a face-lift. Dr Hayes believes in a natural look when performing a face-lift, avoiding the tightly pulled look. Fat injections (rich in stem cells) and liposuction of the neck are common ancillary procedures performed at the same time of the procedure as an adjunct to restore fullness, contour and definition.

 Face Lift

A face lift operation generally addresses the lower third of the face and upper portion of the neck. The aim with the procedure is to create an improved jawline and reduction in the jowls and the loose skin in the cheeks. There are a variety of techniques which range from a mini facelift, which can be done in rooms, or a more traditional face lift and even deep plane face lift. In addition to the face lift surgery itself fat grafting is often included in the procedure to improve areas of volume loss. There are several other add-ons including chemical peels, which would be done at the time of the face lift surgery to improve your skin texture, tone, and pigmentation. A personalised plan would be created during your consultation.

Neck Lift

A neck lift aims to correct the drooping skin and excess fatty fullness in the upper neck area below the jaw. This is often done in combination with a face lift operation if necessary. The techniques used vary from non-invasive skin tightening procedures, to submental liposuction to a neck lift.

Otoplasty or Ear Corrective Surgery

Prominent ears are sometimes a cause for concern for parents and patients.

Children are often teased at school with prominent ears and this can have negative psychological consequences.

The procedure is therefore more common in children that are in primary school.

The surgery is done under general anaesthesia for children and usually under local anaesthesia for adults.

Breast Surgery

Breast surgery within plastic surgery encompasses a variety of procedures aimed at altering the size, shape, symetry and position of the breasts.

These procedures can be performed for cosmetic or reconstructive purposes. Here’s a general overview:

Key Aspects of Breast Surgery:

Cosmetic Enhancement:
This includes procedures like breast augmentation (increasing breast size with implants or fat transfer), breast reduction (decreasing breast size), and mastopexy (breast lift) to address sagging.

Reconstructive Surgery:
This focuses on rebuilding the breast after a mastectomy or other trauma or congenital conditions. Techniques include implant-based reconstruction and flap reconstruction (using tissue from other parts of the body).

Addressing Various Concerns:

Breast surgery can address concerns such as uneven breasts (asymmetry), changes due to aging, pregnancy, or weight fluctuations, and congenital conditions.

Common Breast Surgery Procedures:

Breast Augmentation:
Increases breast volume using implants (saline or silicone) or fat transfer.
Aims to enhance breast size and shape.

Breast Reduction:
Removes excess breast tissue, fat, and skin, thereby lifting, reshaping and reducing the size of the breasts. Alleviates physical discomfort associated with large breasts.

Mastopexy (Breast Lift):
Raises and reshapes sagging breasts by removing excess skin and tightening surrounding tissue.
Restores a more youthful breast contour.

Breast Reconstruction:
Recreates the breast after mastectomy or other breast surgery.
Helps restore body image and self-confidence.

Gynecomastia Surgery:
This is a procedure for men, that reduces breast tissue in men.
This helps to create a more masculine chest contour.

Body Contouring

Body contouring encompasses a range of procedures designed to reshape and improve the appearance of the body.

Procedures

These procedures address excess skin, fat, and uneven contours that may result from significant weight loss, aging, pregnancy, or genetics. Here’s a description of common body contouring procedures:

Core Concepts

Targeting Excess Skin and Fat: Body contouring focuses on removing loose, sagging skin and stubborn fat deposits that resist diet and exercise.
Improving Body Proportions: These procedures aim to create smoother, more defined body contours and enhance overall body proportions.

Post-Weight Loss Transformation: A significant portion of body contouring surgeries are performed on patients who have achieved substantial weight loss, leaving them with excess skin.

Combination Procedures: Often, multiple procedures are combined to achieve comprehensive body reshaping.

Massive Weight Loss Surgery

Removing excess skin and reshaping the body to achieve a more contoured and proportionate appearance.

The amount of weight loss, as well as the patient’s tissue laxity, and areas affected will determine what surgeries are required.

Arm lift or tuck
An arm lift or tuck is also known as a brachioplasty. This involves removal of excess drooping skin and fatty tissue on the underside of the arms. It creates a tightening of the arm extending from the elbow to the armpit and occasionally even beyond the armpit onto the chest wall.

Buttock rejuvenation
Buttock rejuvenation surgery includes techniques to reshape and revolumise the buttock into a more youthful, pleasing shape and fullness.

Lower trunk contouring surgery
Lower trunk contouring surgery includes the abdominoplasty or tummy tuck techniques. In cases of severe skin excess and laxity which extends all the way round the trunk then a circumferential body lift or belt lipectomy may be required. This operation removes the excess abdominal tissue as well as the lower back excessive tissue and elevates both the thighs and the buttocks as well as flattening the tummy to give a more pleasing contour.

Medial thigh lift
The medial thigh lift addresses the excess skin and fat on the insides of the thighs. A combination of liposuction and skin resection is performed to recontour the inside of the thighs to create a more pleasing contour as well as tightening of the skin.

Upper trunk contouring surgery
Upper trunk contouring surgery includes breast surgery being mastopexy (breast lift) or breast reduction as needed in females as well as gynecomastia surgery in males.

Skin Lesions

Skin cancers are divided into melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers.

Most South African Caucasians will develop a skin cancer in their lifetime. Skin cancers are divided into melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers.

During your consultation Dr Hayes will perform a thorough skin screening check and highlight any suspicious looking lesions and detail a treatment plan for these if necessary.
